To answer this question I decided to find out what people are saying about strep throat on some of the most popular social media sites. A quick review of the comments on Twitter and the questions on Yahoo Answers indicates that there is an army of people that are desperate for strep throat treatment.

Steroid Shot?

Hi I just went to the doctor yesterday and found out I have strep throat. I’m on antibiotics , but the pain is unbearable. they offered me a steroid shot in the office, but I’m broke and don’t have insurance, so I passed on that. Does anyone know any home remedies or anything that will take the edge off this pain? I’m making some hot tea right now. It just really hurts to swallow so I don’t like to eat or drink. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am pretty sure I have strep throat. I have a lump the size of a watermelon in my lymph nodes and I keep running a fever. I sleep an obscene amount and feel like total crap. Any suggestions on what I can do to feel better?

Strep Throat Treatment – Do You Need Antibiotics

What is Strep Throat? It’s a painful throat infection caused by bacteria and is highly contagious. It is most common in children and people who frequent crowded places where the infection can be passed from one person to anther very rapidly. Many of the symptoms may be similar to a sore throat, but you must first identify it in order to treat it properly. Symptoms of strep throat are as follows:

Severe pain when swallowing without any other cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose. A sore throat usually has the accompanying cold symptoms.
Swollen lymph nodes. A sore throat usually does not cause swollen glands.
Severe redness with yellow or white spotting in the throat. As sore throat usually does not show any signs of spotting in the throat.
Fever and in some cases a rash on neck and chest. A sore throat usually is not accompanied by fever or rash.

The best way to avoid getting strep throat is the same as avoiding most contagious diseases. Avoid contact with anyone who has the infection, wash your hands often and do not share food, drinks or utensils. Also avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible.
