Strep Throat Treatment – Do You Need Antibiotics

What is Strep Throat?  It’s a painful throat infection caused by bacteria and is highly contagious.  It is most common in children and people who frequent crowded places where the infection can be passed from one person to anther very rapidly.  Many of the symptoms may be similar to a sore throat, but you must first identify it in order to treat it properly.  Symptoms of strep throat are as follows:

  • Severe pain when swallowing without any other cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose.  A sore throat usually has the accompanying cold symptoms.
  • Swollen lymph nodes.  A sore throat usually does not cause swollen glands.
  • Severe redness with yellow or white spotting in the throat.  As sore throat usually does not show any signs of spotting in the throat.
  • Fever and in some cases a rash on neck and chest.  A sore throat usually is not accompanied by fever or rash.

The best way to avoid getting strep throat is the same as avoiding most contagious diseases.  Avoid contact with anyone who has the infection, wash your hands often and do not share food, drinks or utensils.  Also avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible.

When a person thinks they have strep throat, their first thought is that they will need to see a doctor for a culture and a prescription.  This is not necessarily the case.  With proper strep throat treatment, the patient can successfully continue his normal routine without the pain and other symptoms.  As with the treatment of any disease or infection, there may not be a quick and easy solution.

How do you treat Strep throat?  Conventional treatment of this condition includes working with a family doctor to diagnose the problem and prescribe the proper antibiotics for your infection.  Most common antibiotics for strep throat are penicillin, amoxicillin, cephalexin, azithromycin, cephalosporin and several others that are less commonly prescribed   Antibiotics are commonly used to treat strep throat because they kill the bacteria and shorten the time the patient is contagious.  They relieve discomfort and can also help prevent rare complications.

When you address the problem with an approach to curing both store throat and strep throat by using an innovative strep throat treatment program you can get rid of the pain and symptoms for good.  If you are lucky enough to find proper instructions and follow them faithfully, you too can achieve this goal. Good luck.
